Local Area Networking
My career in Audio and Video has been networking focused since early 2005, when I was one of a handful of sales associates at Magnolia Audio Video who could effectively explain, sell, and support a number of products which utilized local area networks for media distribution, control, and automation purposes. Since then, it is more common than not to find an A/V or technology product with an in-built network interface of some type, and I’ve connected hundreds, if not thousands of these products to networks of a wide variety.
As someone who has been at the intersection of audio, video, and other technology products with local area networking, I have unique insights into the many challenges that are faced by audio/video and automation retailers, integration firms, telecom and internet service providers, and not to mention the typical end user, when implementing and deploying local area networks for a wide variety of applications.
As with A/V products and systems, my goal is to simplify and de-mystify networking in order to achieve real world results. There are many nuances and inner workings of network and networked products which can and often do go unnoticed, and the result is typically ongoing and intermittent problems which continue to crop up when the network is put under heavy traffic requirements. Another result is poor security in many cases, which puts personal and sensitive information at risk. And, local area networking is not any different from my experience with A/V, in that I am more often than not learning along with my clients about what it is that really makes sense for their goals.
